White background in Sporepedia causing crashes

Forum rules
BEFORE YOU POST...

Remember that all mods available here REQUIRE Spore: Galactic Adventures AND patch 5.1. Patch 6\Bot Parts does NOT include Patch 5.1! (Some may work on other setups, but this is recommended)

Can't get a mod to work? Feel free to ask for help, there's always someone around to help out. Just make sure to include the following information:
a) Did you install Spore from Steam, Origin, or a Disk?
b) Is your game patched to the latest version?
c) Do you have Galactic Adventures?
d) If so, is it also patched to the latest version?
e) Where did you install the mod to?
f) What is the file's current name in the folder you installed it to?
This information is needed for us to help you!

White background in Sporepedia causing crashes

Unread post by Etherealist »

Forgive me if I wind up editing this post extremely frequently (i can't stay focused lol), I'm trying to make this as descriptive as possible. I'll answer questions upon request or add more details to this post if I'm missing/remembering anything.

I'd just gotten a new computer for Christmas and decided to re-install Spore (with the discs; though in the incorrect order however, with it being Spore > GA > C+C, though I'm uncertain if this is the root of the issue) and all the mods I'd owned (via a flash drive, which appears to have worked out mostly OK). I'm not certain but I think I have the latest patch of the game. I have opened the game via the Spore ModAPI Launcher.

I attempted to import all my creations from my old computer by dragging it into the "My Spore Creations" folder, but the game wound up crashing upon launching. I figured it was the sheer amount of creations that I had, specifically in the Creatures department, so I removed all 1,018 creature PNGs from the "creatures" folder. The game launched and worked just fine after doing that. All my vehicles, buildings, and adventures remained intact.

However, the problem arose after I'd tried to drag in some of these creature PNGs. I didn't do it all at once, mind you, but only dragged five at a time into the game. Some of the creatures that were dragged worked completely OK and I could open them up in the editor.

Whenever I opened the Sporepedia and scrolled down, some specific sporepedia cards (I saw this in creatures only) would have this weird white background behind it. When the Sporepedia card flew onto the screen, the game would then immediately crash. Dragging the creature into the editor wouldn't cause crashes, but the creature would not load onto the editor.

While creating this post I'd found something else interesting. In the "creatures" tab, there's a white box (where "captains" is) and clicking it will show some creatures with that same white background before the game crashes. I managed to grab a screenshot before the game closed:

I should add that not all of the "infected" creatures were captains. At least 3 of them were wild.

If there's any way I could fix this please let me know. Thank you!

Quick update: I think I've found the root of the problem!! There appears to be no captain editor:

I'm going to try re-installing the games in the correct order right now.

Yeah, definitely don't install the game and its DLCs in the wrong order.

Also don't transfer your mods via flash drive, that's not how you install mods. This is.
