How to play Spore at 60 fps!!! - Remove 30 fps limit

Unread postby Emd4600 [ASR] » Fri Mar 27, 2015 11:52 am

Do you know Spore has a 30 fps limit? This means that Spore will never play over 30 fps. But there's a fix for this:

1. In your Start menu, search the program Notepad. Open it in Administrator Mode.

2. Open the file [ :ga: (Spore if you don't have it) INSTALLATION FODLER]\Data\Config\Properties.txt in Notepad. Now add this line at the end of the file:

Code: Select all

property frameLimitMS   44   int

Save the file.

3. Now, open the file [:ga: (Spore if you don't have it) INSTALLATION FODLER]\Data\Config\ConfigManager.txt. Add this line at the end of the file:

Code: Select all

intProp   frameLimitMS   17

Save the file.

Done! Now you can run Spore at 60 fps!!

Can I change the limit to whatever I want?

Yes, you can. We've changed the minimal miliseconds a frame will take to render. In normal Spore it was on 33ms, which means that each frame will take, at least, 33ms to render. 1000ms / 33ms = 30 fps. We've changed it to 17ms, so 1000ms / 17ms = 58,8 fps.
So, you can change the value to whatever you want. For example, if you want to have a 90 fps limit, 1000ms / 90fps = 11,1ms. To change it, just modify the line we've added to ConfigManager to:

Code: Select all

intProp   frameLimitMS   11
(Note you cannot use decimal numbers)

OK, this is awesome. Spore was in 30FPS all this time? It looked like it was running in 15FPS. Maybe it's my computer.

Hey, just wanted to chip in say I finally decided to try this out.

Just.... lol. The difference, it really does feel like the whole game has sped up. It's kind of freaking me out actually, all the small details I've just.. never noticed until now. As always Davo, thank you for your impacts to this game! I just hope this will appear in videos as well.

It suddenly stopped working.

I use these settings

property frameLimitMS 44 int
intProp frameLimitMS 6.

I'm running with a 144hz screen, that's why i used these settings.

I've been running just fine with the setting for days,
but now it doesn't work anymore.. just now.

Um...check your config files. Have they spotaneously reverted or something? I didn't think that was even possible, but it's worth a shot, I guess...

Hey EMD4600, Thanks for this fix to make spore 60fps, Works like a charm for me. But hey, I was wondering with your permission, If I could make a guide On the Steam guides page using this fix.
Because I feel if you allow me to make the guide, We could get it out to a wider range of people, and help them get their games to 60 frames.
Thank you for your time.

I added those lines to the end of the right files both in the base game folder and the ones in EP1, as well as tried both individually, and neither configuration did diddly squat. Any ideas?

a) Lag
b) You just aren't noticing it
c) Something else is interfering

Those are my guesses

All wrong. Fraps and afterburner still report 30fps; they don't lie. I'd also opened the program up with nvidia inspector to see if it was a vsync thing, but the damnest thing happens; no matter what i do inspector won't let me change it to force off or on; it always resets itself to 3d app controlled; never before have I seen that.

No idea then :/

These tweaks really aren't my area of expertise. Sorry. If I come up with another solution, I'll give you a shout. Hopefully someone else beats me to it...

Cool. Least someone replied. I updated the original reply with another bit of strange info.

I mean I guess c) Could be true but even If it was I haven't the foggiest clue What would. But it's just one of several odd problems i've been having that i'm fiddling with on my own trying to fix before I make an actual post about it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, are you supposed to put these lines at the very end (as the last lines)?

That's how it's usually done, yes. I'm not sure if it actually matters, but I recommend you do it that way, so you can find the tweak with ease, should you need to remove it. (Also, make a backup first. Hopefully that's common sense).
