An interesting documentary on global warming, as seen from a future perspective.

I recently completed "Flood" by Stephen Baxter. Missouri stayed above water for a surprisingly long time...

I've not read that, but it is surprising, considering it was underwater for a very long time to start with, as was Iowa.

We just finished digging up a 9' x 7' limestone slab at the farm that is a writhing mass of crinoids. One of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Jose won't even let me take pictures until he decides what he's going to do with it. I know the farm can use the money, but we're thinking technically the state has first dibs -- and I covet it, much.
And after I pull off that miracle, maybe I'll go punch out God.

Fossils. A whole freakin' slab solid of the things. Pretty much just like that only more dense. It's insanely beautiful. It was in the muck out in one of the fields that's part of an old quarry.

Mythbusters busted global warming. The atmosphere would have to be like 90% Carbon-dioxide to make it extremely hot. It's just how tar and concrete intensifies heat in cities. People are really dumb to think that Carbon-dioxide is doing it.

That's funny. The episode I saw had nothing to do with CO2.

Myth: Cows hurt the environment. Confirmed Cows emit methane—though not mostly from flatulence, but from belching — and their feces emit even more methane once they begin rotting. Since there are so many cows, the methane contributes significantly to global warming.

I often do that myself, so no worries. :)

Here's an excellent source of information on greenhouse gasses, what they are, and how they "work":

http://www.umich.edu/~gs265/society/greenhouse.htm

Personally, I don't agree with the term "global warming". It's a misnomer. A more accurate term would be "global climate destabilization".

Earth's climate tries to maintain an equilibrium. When that balance is upset, things will shift until they find a new, stable configuration. But right now, the weather and climate are not as stable as recorded in the historical record.

Could it be a natural phenomenon? Sure. The climate has changed many times in the past.
Could it be caused by human interferrence? Sure. There have been many studies that show human activity is changing the composition of the atmosphere and oceans.

But regardless of the cause, it is happening. There's no denying that.
