I don't see why that would effect it. Originally they were on a building and the creature didn't pick it up. Then I moved them to the ground and they picked it up, but didn't hand it to the captain I assigned. Then I moved them back onto the building and unlike before, they picked it up, but just like before, they didn't hand it to the captain.
I really wish there were mods to better control "when" characters picked something up. Like I don't want a character to run across the map and try and pick something up as soon as the level starts, I only want them to pick it up after a certain act is completed or when they get into a certain proximity of the object.
