The main post mentioned that things like minerals are planned to be included. How are they going to work? Are they simply going to be for money, like spice, or will they have other uses? Will you collect them like how you collect artifacts or will vehicles collect them? Will they play a part in the civilization and tribe stages as well as space?

Okay, colonies will collect minerals like how they collect spice. The minerals they find will be random, with more common minerals of course being more commonly collected. You can also collect surface minerals with your ship in the same way you gather collectibles. Some minerals are more common on some planets than others. More rare minerals can of course be sold for more money than common minerals.

Maybe minerals could have special uses, although I'm not sure how this would work exactly since there isn't a crafting system in Spore.
